Help

1. Getting started

  1. Create an account with your email, open the confirmation link we send you, and log in.
  2. Click + Add character. Enter the bot's Second Life username (janedoe or jane.doe) and its password.
  3. Optionally enter a location and the UUID of an object to sit on (see below), then Add character.
  4. Select the character and click Log in. The Activity tab shows what it does.

The first successful login confirms that the avatar is yours; after that no other SLBot account can add it.

2. Scripted Agent status and multi-factor login

Linden Lab requires bots to be marked as Scripted Agents: log in to secondlife.com with the bot's account, open Account → Scripted Agent Status, and set it. Scripted agents are not counted in region traffic.

Second Life's own multi-factor authentication must be off for the bot's account: a bot cannot type the codes, so it could not log in or reconnect. If it is on, SLBot shows "needs attention" with this explanation. (Two-factor login for this website is something else, and is a good idea.)

3. Location and sitting

Write the location as Region/X/Y/Z, e.g. Devils/132/74/39, or paste a SLurl (http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Devils/132/74/39). Empty means the bot stays where it logs in.

To sit on an object, the bot needs its UUID: in your viewer, right-click the object → Edit → General tab → copy the UUID (Firestorm: "Copy Keys"). The object must be in the same region and allow sitting. Teleport and Sit repeat the steps at any time; changes to the location or UUID apply at the next teleport or sit.

4. RLV and an RLV relay

With "RLV enabled", the bot obeys RLV commands from objects it wears, like a normal RLV viewer. To let other people's furniture and traps control it, wear an RLV relay on the bot (any relay HUD or attachment) and set the relay to Auto (accept everything) or the mode you want, using your own viewer logged in as the bot once. The restrictions in force are shown under the bot's name; Teleport, Sit and Stand respect them.

5. Staying online

6. Chat, IMs and groups

Nearby chat shows what the bot hears; type in the box to speak (channel 0 is normal chat; other channels talk to scripts). IMs holds private conversations, Groups holds group chats, each with its own red counter. The 🔔 button mutes a conversation (still received and saved, no red counter); × closes it until a new message arrives. To start an IM, paste the avatar's UUID under "New IM". In the header, Notify me of new IMs shows a desktop notification when the SLBot tab is in the background.

7. Offers and the away message

In the bot's settings you choose whether it accepts inventory, group invitations, friendship offers and teleport offers. All are declined unless you tick them, and each one is noted in Activity. Careful: an accepted teleport takes the bot away from its base. RLV @accepttp from a worn object still works.

The away message answers private IMs automatically, once per person every 30 minutes.

8. The daily message limit

Second Life allows 5,000 messages a day per account. SLBot counts what all your bots send (IMs, group messages, nearby chat, away messages) and stops at 4,900 a day, to stay safely under it. The count is in the header; it turns orange and you get an email at 4,500. It starts again at midnight Second Life time (Pacific). Receiving is never limited.

9. History, export and support access

10. Your account and two-factor login

On the Account page you change your email (confirmed by a link to the new address) and password, turn on two-factor login with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy…), see the devices where you are logged in, download your data or delete your account. Keep the 10 recovery codes safe: each one logs you in once if you lose your phone.

11. When something goes wrong

You seeWhat to do
"needs attention": Second Life refused the username or password Check the username, type the password again in the settings and save, then Log in. The bot does not retry by itself, so the Second Life account is not locked.
"needs attention": multi-factor codesTurn off multi-factor authentication for the bot's account on secondlife.com, then Log in.
Reconnecting for a long timeLook at Second Life's status page and ours (Status).
Could not sitThe object must be in the same region, close enough, and allow sitting; check the UUID.
"Something went wrong (error abc123)"Send us the error code; it lets us find exactly what happened.
